Frank Dikotter is Professor of the Modern History of China at SOAS. His work has been linked to the Wellcome Trust for many years. He was a Wellcome Research Fellow, before becoming the recipient of a University Grant for five years while working in the history department at SOAS. His research is concerned with the anthropological and cultural issues of modernity and he has published on aspects of race and identity, medical knowledge and birth defects, as well as crime, punishment and prisons in China. His most recent research is concerned with the cultural history of opium in China.
